Hey Pumpkin Patch Friends!
We thought we would give you an update. 2012 has definitely presented many difficulties to our families. Both the Smiths and Hollands have faced many unexpected trials this year.
As farming has become less and less profitable in recent years, Duncan and Tara had to start a new venture. To keep the farm going they have opened Spring Hill Dairy Cheese and Yogurt, a farmstead creamery. While this has been successful, it has proven to be very time consuming.
The drought has hit us hard, just as it has many farmers. As a result we had to purchase pumpkins and corn prices are astronomical. The drought has caused great financial pressures on farmers as we are feeding all our hay reserves and will be facing winter months soon.
Dennis and Salina were given some life altering news. In January 2012, Salina was diagnosed with breast cancer and two weeks later faced a double mastectomy. She has endured a couple of surgeries and multiple procedures that continued from January through the end of August. This has been quite a journey, not only for Salina, but for Dennis, Tayler, Landon, and all her family and friends.  It is amazing to see how adversity came, yet all of us who were affected are closer to each other and closer to the Lord.  We are happy to say that she is now cancer free and recovering from all the procedures.  While this has been tremendously challenging to all involved, we are so thankful for God’s guidance and His faithfulness.
Both the Smiths and Hollands have faced many trials and difficulties in 2012      BUT GOD has been faithful to walk with us every step of the way.  We are so thankful that we can put our trust in Him and know that He will never leave us. We know that He is our provider, our healer, and our strength.  Without His grace, the pumpkin patch would not be open this year. We know that He will provide wisdom, peace, and joy.  We have learned to look to Him and not look at our circumstances.
In spite of all the adversity, we are looking forward to a great fall season and are excited about seeing all of our pumpkin patch friends.  While 2012 started out as a bad year for all of us, we are looking forward to a happy ending to the 2012 season.
Hope to see you all soon!
